Helen Coble, 83, of Wilmington, who enjoyed crocheting, cooking, died April 20, 2014

Tuesday, April 22, 2014 — Helen Whitley Coble, 83, of Wilmington, passed away on Sunday, April 20, 2014, at home surrounded by her family. She lived in Aquadale until 2009 when her health began declining.  

Helen was born on May 23, 1930, in Union County, N.C., to the late Lonnie and Annie Simpson Whitley. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Coble; sisters, Pauline W. Hester, Opal W. Gray, Elsie W. Mason and Mary W. Hahn; and brothers, Lonnie Lee Whitley Jr. and James Paul Whitley.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Sam Strawn of Wilmington, N.C.; three grandchildren, Paula and Tyler Benton of Lagrange, N.C., Aimee and Ronnie King of Wilmington, N.C. and Nikki Strawn of Carolina Beach, N.C.; four great-grandchildren, Kailee, Samantha, Dean and Amber; one sister-in-law, Nellie C. Whitley of Albemarle; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Helen attended Aquadale Baptist Church and sang in the choir. She retired from the City of Albemarle. She was a past member of Three Rivers Quilt Club and enjoyed crocheting and cooking.

Helen was a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her greatest joys in life.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.

Service will be private.
