Julia Burris, 82, of Norwood dies

Friday, August 16, 2013 — Julia Adelaide Allen Burris, 82, of Norwood, surrounded by her loving family, passed away Tuesday afternoon, August 13, 2013, at her home.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, August 16, 2013, at Cottonville Baptist Church. Rev. Alex Willoughby will officiate and interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday evening, August 15, 2013, at Edwards Funeral Home in Norwood.

Mrs. Burris was born April 19, 1931, in Cabarrus County to the late John Carl and Jodie Curlee Allen.  

She was a faithful member of Cottonville Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and was a long time teacher of the ladies Adult Sunday School class. She was a loving mother and was especially proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Avery Burris; son-in-law, Lynn McDonald; brothers, Ernest, John, Nathan and Bennett Allen; sisters, Lillian Barringer, Virginia Pinion, Mary Frone Crump and Evelyne Harris.

She is survived by her daughters, Sandra Crump and husband Louis and Sharon Rose Frick, all of Norwood and Karen McDonald of Albemarle; sisters, Nellie Eudy of Norwood, Sara Maness of Asheboro, Jodie Beckler of Olathe, Kans. and Cassie Griffin of Pensacola, Fla.; four grandchildren, Melissa Talbert and husband Jamie, Jamie Crump, Heath McDonald and wife Jenny and Eric McDonald and wife Brigitte; five great-grandchildren, Jacob and Ava Talbert, Olivia and Victoria McDonald and Davis McDonald.

The family wishes to thank Barbara Kendall, family friend and caregiver for her loving care and Dr. Mehta and Hospice of Stanly County.
