Services for Lum Hinson, 85, of Oakboro, will be June 27, 2014

Wednesday, June 25, 2014 — Columbus “Lum” Franklin Hinson, 85 years of age, of Oakboro, passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at Stanly Manor in Albemarle.

Lum was born August 8, 1928, in Union County, to the late John Otis Hinson and the late Ethel Thomas Hinson. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Whitley Hinson in 2010; sisters, Marshaleen “Dean” Maske and Lucille Stegall; and brothers, Otis “Buck” Hinson and Flave Hinson.

Lum was owner and operator of Lum’s Ford-Lincoln Dealership in Albemarle since 1972 and Oakboro Auto Sales in Oakboro, N.C., established in 1960. He served on the Town Board of Oakboro and was a member of the Oakboro Fire Department and the Stanly County Masonic Lodge.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, June 26, 2014, at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle. The funeral service, officiated by Dr. Terrell Watts and Chip Alsobrooks, will be at 1 p.m. Friday, June 27, 2014, at First Baptist Church of Oakboro. Burial will follow at the Oakboro Cemetery with full military rites being conducted by the Stanly County DAV Chapter 12. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service.

He is survived by sons, Terry (Darlene) Hinson and Doug (Sheila) Hinson; brother, Wade E. Hinson; sisters, Betty (Daniel) Helms of Marshville, Gail (Larry) Price of Monroe, Janice (Shelton) Gaddy of Oakboro and Margaret (Julian) King of Lenoir; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and brothers-in-law, Jack Maske and Clayton Stegall.

The Hinson family would like to extend a special thanks to the Bayada Nurses and the members of  First Baptist Church of Oakboro for their ministry.
