Charlie D. Morris, 79, who enjoyed fishing, gardening, died Feb. 15, 2014

Tuesday, February 18, 2014 — Charlie D. Morris, 79, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, February 15, 2014, surrounded by his family.

He was born February 10, 1935, in Rowan County, to the late John and Eva Morris.  

He served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy.  

He married Judy Wagoner Morris in 1959 and they have enjoyed over 54 years of marriage.  

Charlie was a brick mason by trade. Along with his witty sense of humor, he enjoyed fishing and gardening. But most of all was the love that he had for his 10 wonderful grandchildren and their love for him, not to be overshadowed by the love of his life, his wife, Judy.

In addition to his parents, Charlie is preceded in death by his oldest granddaughter, Lori Catherine Alion; and brothers, James, Lee, “Pap” and Johnnie.  

Surviving him in death is his wife, Judy; children, Cathy M. Alion (Joe) and their daughter, Dana Jo;  Terri M. Smith (Phil) and their children, Ashley and Brandon; Charlie David “Chuck” Morris Jr. (Connie) and their children Megan, Charlie David III “Chad” and Amber;  Alfred J. Morris (Kelly) and their children, Trey, Jake and Haley; brother, Bob Morris (Carol); sisters, Kathleen Poplin, Bonnie Parker (Wayne), Nellie Little, Julia Williams (Don), Ruby Barringer (Bradford) and Shirley Williams (Truman); sisters-in-law, Geraldine Morris and Annette Wagoner; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Jan and Wayne Melton. Charlie is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service for Charlie will be on Wednesday, February 19 at 1 p.m. in the Cavin-Cook Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Stephen Vance with Hospice of Iredell County officiating. Visitation will be immediately following the service.  

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation for the care Charlie received from his caregivers at Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County.  

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.  

Cavin-Cook Funeral Home & Crematory, 494 East Plaza Drive, Mooresville, is serving the Morris family.
