Alfred Blake, 86, of Albemarle, who loved golf, fishing, NASCAR, died Jan. 16, 2014

Sunday, January 19, 2014 — Alfred Bryant Blake, 86, of Albemarle, passed away Thursday, January 16, 2014, in his home, surrounded by his children.  

His funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 21, 2014, in Anderson Grove Baptist Church with Dr. Rick Walker and Rev. Ron Honeycutt officiating. Burial will follow in Blackwoods Chapel Baptist Church in Pekin, N.C. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, January 20, 2014, at Stanly Funeral Home, Albemarle, N.C.  

Born December 3, 1927, in Montgomery County, N.C., he was the son of the late Sam and Frances Cato Blake.

He was a retired Resident Engineer with the N.C. Dept. of Transportation and also a consultant with various other engineering firms after retirement.  

Mr. Blake was a member of Anderson Grove Baptist Church. He loved his family dearly and he enjoyed golf, fishing, and cars, especially NASCAR.

He was married to the late Emma Lucille Burris Blake, who preceded him in death in 2010. He was also preceded in death by his son, Andrew Blake and grandson, Alex Blake.  

Survivors include sons, Bernie Blake and wife Anna of Troy and Craig Blake and wife Debbie of Albemarle; daughters, Dianne B. Loflin of Fancy Gap, Va. and Mary B. Finley and friend Charlie Lowder of Albemarle; daughter-in-law, Barbara Blake of Norwood; brother, Ralph Blake and wife Myrtle Rae of Asheville; sister Catherine Thompson of Albemarle; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

The family requests memorials be made to Hospice of Stanly County, 960 N. First St., Albemarle, NC 28001.
