Lorine ‘Doodle’ Moore, 81, of Rockwell, an active church member, avid traveler, died July 6, 2014

Monday, July 7, 2014 — Mrs. Lorine “Doodle” Shipton Moore, 81, of Rockwell, passed away Sunday, July 6, 2014, at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.  

She was born December 18, 1932, in Rowan County, N.C., to the late Arthur and Lula Morgan Shipton.  

Doodle was a graduate of Boyden High School in Salisbury and Rowan-Cabarrus Community College. She retired from W.G. Hefner V.A. Medical Center in Salisbury as a Registered Nurse.  

A life member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rockwell, she was a member of the Laura Miller/Velna Brown Circle, the Arthur Shipton Adult Sunday School Class, former member of the Church Council and the Music and Worship Committee and current member of the Social Ministry Committee. Doodle was an active member of the Immanuel Senior Citizens and the Adult Bible Study and was also a former youth adviser.

She was a charter member of the East Rowan Saddle Club and was an avid traveler, traveling to all 48 contiguous states with her family.

In addition to her parents, Doodle was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. John Douglas Moore; son, Mr. David Alan Moore; grandson, Destry Ridenhour; and sister, Mary Katherine Russell.

She is survived by her daughter, Kelly M. Thomas of Rockwell; grandchildren, Garrett Moore and wife Jamie of Salisbury and Joey Ridenhour and wife Jamie of Rockwell; great-grandchildren, Kaleb and Krista Ridenhour and Reaghan and Rylan Moore; and brother, Ralph Shipton and wife Betty of Hampstead, N.C.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 9, 2014, from 6-7:30 p.m. at Powles Funeral Home in Rockwell.

The funeral service will be Thursday, July 10, 2014, at 3 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rockwell, conducted by the Rev. Bruce Sheeks, pastor. Burial will follow in the church cemetery
