Aileen Morris, 97, a retired school teacher, active church member, who enjoyed arts and crafts, bridge, died June 28, 2014

Monday, June 30, 2014 — Helen Aileen Morris, 97, passed away Saturday, June 28, 2014, at Consulate Health Care of Pensacola in Pensacola, Florida.

She was born in Marion, N.C., on October 11, 1916, to the late Robert Samuel Abernethy and the late Amelia Charles Hendley Abernethy. She was also preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Clarence Howard Morris.

The family will receive friends from 9:30-10:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at Concord United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall in Ansonville, N.C. A graveside service, officiated by the Rev. Beau Linker, will follow at 11 a.m. in the Concord United Methodist Church Cemetery.

She is survived by her son, Robert Morris of Pensacola, Florida; her granddaughter, Kim Houser of Washington, D.C.; nieces, Carolyn R. Lindow of Annapolis, Maryland and Alice L. Abernethy of  Badin, N.C.; and nephews, Michael Fromer of Chico, California and David Fromer of Middletown, California.

Aileen earned her BS in Education at Berry College in Georgia. She did graduate work at The University of Maryland, Oxford College of Ohio, George Washington University and The American University, both of Washington, D.C. She taught public schools for a total of 43 years.

She was a very active church worker. Aileen enjoyed assisting her late husband, the Rev. Howard Morris, with his ministry and church work. A member of Badin United Methodist church, she served as president of women’s work, was a Sunday School teacher, choir member and a certified lay speaker. Other activities were garden club, bridge and arts and crafts.
