Clarence Mabry Sr., 87, a U.S. Army WWII Veteran, passed away Feb. 15, 2014


Tuesday, February 18, 2014 — Clarence Haywood Mabry Sr., 87 years of age, of Albemarle, passed away Saturday, February 15, 2014, at his residence.

Clarence was born September 20, 1926, in Stanly County, to the late Clarence Lauren Mabry and the late Geneva May Russell Mabry. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Lucille Stevens.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, February 18, 2014, at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle. The funeral service, officiated by the Rev. Adam Hatley and Chaplain Robert Mabry, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 19, 2014, at West Albemarle Baptist Church, 336 Church St., Albemarle, NC 28001, with a 30 minute state prior to the service. Burial will follow at Stanly Gardens of Memory, 2001 E. Main St., Albemarle, NC.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lois Harward Mabry of Albemarle; sons, Clarence Mabry Jr. and wife Jamie of Aiken, S.C., Robert Mabry and wife Terry of Albemarle, Paul Mabry and wife Kathy of Seneca, S.C. and Thomas Mabry of Roanoke, Va; daughter, Deborah Monroe and husband George of Concord; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; and one sister, Geraldine Lemons.

A graduate of N.C. State University in industrial engineering, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during WWII in the Pacific Theatre.
