Mattie Jean “Sue” Lucas Parker, age 83, of Albemarle, N.C., died Monday, September 23, 2013, in Bethany Woods Nursing Center, Albemarle, N.C.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday, September 27, 2013, at Congregational Christian Church, Albemarle, N.C. Rev. Donald Ray Johnson and Rev. Nathan Fox will officiate and burial will be in Fairview Memorial Park, Albemarle, N.C.
The family will receive friends at Congregational Christian Church from 1-2 p.m. Friday, September 27, 2013, prior to the hour of the service.
Born April 1, 1930, in Stanly County, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Thomas Marshall Lucas and Rena Cruse Lucas.
She was a graduate of Albemarle High School. After high school she went to work for Wiscassett Mills and retired from the shipping department.
She was a lifelong member of Congregational Christian Church. She was an active member of the Dorcas Circle and Volunteer for Meals on Wheels while her health permitted. She was a devoted caregiver to her mother, aunts and uncle. She loved life, her family and friends.
Mrs. Parker was married to the late Gerald K. Parker who preceded her in death. Two brothers, Tommy and Kent Lucas; and a nephew, Johnny Lucas, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include two brothers, John (Thelma) Lucas of Calabash, N.C. and Ronald Lucas Sr. of Albemarle, N.C.
Also surviving are nieces, Kim (Ron) Haselden and Paige (Jeff) Hardy of Chocowinity, N.C.; nephews, Ronnie Lucas and Sean David (Jennifer) Lucas of Albemarle, N.C.; great-niece, Emma Paige; great-nephews, Zack and Luke; stepson, Michael Parker of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and step granddaughter, Grace.
