Lena Underwood, 91, of Albemarle, an active volunteer, who enjoyed yard sales, walking, died Jan. 11, 2014

Sunday, January 12, 2014 — Lena Agnes Clark Underwood, 91, of Albemarle, passed away, January 11, 2014, at Stanly Regional Medical Center in Albemarle.

Lena was born July 22, 1922 in Albemarle to the late Daniel Clark and the late Mary Myrtle Glover Clark.

She was also preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Samuel Alexander Underwood Jr. in 1997; sisters, May Britt and Dorothy Page; and brothers, Walter, J.D. and Ray Clark.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle. At other times the family will gather at the home of Judy and David Holcomb, 1225 Wendover, Albemarle. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday at Hill Street Church of God in Albemarle and will be officiated by Ordained Bishop Thomas Andrufski. Burial will follow at the Stanly Gardens of Memory at 2001 E. Main St., Albemarle.

She is survived by one son, James Ray Underwood and Margo of Raleigh and her daughter, Judy Underwood Holcomb and husband Dave of Albemarle; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

She was an active volunteer at Stanly County Nutrition Site and at Stanly County Senior Center.

She was honored as the longest attending member of Hill Street Church of God, 74 years, where she attended regularly until her recent illness.

She enjoyed yard sales and was an avid walker. She taught Sunday school and volunteered wherever needed at Hill Street Church of God.
