Billy Sunday Capel, 86, of Albemarle, passed away Saturday, June 8, 2013, in Bethany Woods Nursing Center.
His funeral service was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, 2013, in the Stanly Funeral Home Chapel, Albemarle, with Pastor Keith Walters officiating. Burial followed in Stanly Gardens of Memory with full military honors by the Stanly County DAV Ritual Team.
The family received friends from 12:30-1:30 p.m. prior to the funeral service at Stanly Funeral Home.
Born April 7, 1927, in Richmond County, N.C., he was the son of the late William Oris Capel and Carrie Mae Sasser Capel.
A retired employee of E.J. Snyder, he was a member of the Baptist Faith and a veteran of the U.S. Navy. After he retired, he managed the Stanly County Farmers Market for several years.
He is survived by his wife Hilda Blanche Lassiter Capel. Other survivors include sons, Ronald G. Capel and David L. Capel, both of Albemarle and William Darrell Capel of Durham; daughter, Debra Paige of Albemarle; sisters, Elsie Hinson of Norwood and Daphine Poplin of Princeton, N.C.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by nine sisters, Glennie Cauble, Hazel Hathcock, Mary Flax Thompson, Ruth Stuttsman, Bobbie Ann Julian, Catherine Wallace, Ida Spivey, Rosa Lee Sasser and Margaret Capel and by two brothers, Lloyd Grant Capel and Lester Capel.
