Annie Lee Poplin, 88, of Albemarle, had a 44-year banking career

Tuesday, September 24, 2013 — Annie Lee Cline Poplin, 88 years of age, of Albemarle, passed away Sunday, September 22, 2013, at her residence.

Annie Lee was born March 18, 1925, in Cabarrus County to the late Lee Oscar Cline and the late Annie Phillips Cline. She was also preceded in death by husband, Walter Smith Poplin; sisters, Billie Marie Poplin and Dorothy “Dot” Lowder; and brother, Frank “Bud” Cline.

Annie Lee graduated from Winecoff High School in Cabarrus County in 1941 and then attended Catawba College for one year majoring in Business Administration.

Her first job was with Kannapolis Finance Company which was transferred to Concord Finance Company and she was made manager.

After her marriage to Walter Smith Poplin in 1948, they moved to Albemarle where she continued her career in banking. On October 10, 1949, she became employed by Albemarle Building and Loan Association, which is now First Citizens Bank. She retired on November 30, 1993, after 44 years of service.

The family received friends on Tuesday, September 24, 2013, from 6-8 p.m. at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle. The funeral service was at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, September 25, 2013, at Main Street United Methodist Church, with Rev. Fred Carpenter officiating. Burial followed at Aquadale Baptist Church Cemetery, 32871 Church Road, Norwood.

She is survived by her daughter, Rita Poplin McKeithan of Albemarle; and grandsons, Austin and Koby McKeithan of Albemarle.
