LEXINGTON – Irene Elizabeth Swaringen Mabry, 88, of Alston Brook Nursing Center, formerly of Spruce Street, died Thursday, February 27, 2014, at Alston Brook.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 2, 2014, at Center Hill Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Brian Alexander, the Rev. Lamar Moore and the Rev. Roy Cantrell officiating. Burial will follow at 4:30 p.m. in Porter Baptist Church Cemetery, Norwood. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, March 1, 2014, at Davidson Funeral Home.
Mrs. Mabry was born June 6, 1925, in Stanly County, to John Grover Swaringen and Clarice Ruth McIntyre Swaringen. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, William Arthur Mabry; and brothers, Lane and Lee Swaringen.
She was a homemaker.
Surviving are sons, Harold Mabry and wife Glenda and Charles Mabry and wife Deborah, all of Lexington; daughter, Ann Smith and husband Larry of Lexington; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, J.T. Swaringen and wife Judy of New London, Henry Swaringen and wife Sue and Gerald Swaringen and wife Janet, all of Albemarle, and Conrad Swaringen and wife Helen of Norwood; and sister, Ruth Kimrey of Albemarle.

The family would like to thank the staff of Alston Brook for the compassionate care given to Mrs. Mabry during her stay at the nursing center.
