Richard “Dick” Walter Mills, of New London, died Saturday, March 30, 2013, at Carolinas Medical Center, Northeast.
The funeral service, officiated by Rev. Jim Yow and Rev. Leslie Wray, will be held at Central United Methodist Church of Albemarle on Monday, April 1, 2013, at 11:00 am. The body will lie in a 30 minute state prior to the service. Private burial will follow at a later date.
Mr. Mills was born on February 7, 1917, in Montgomery County, to the late Jack and Ida Mills.
He grew up in the Pee Dee and Morrow Mountain area. He was married to Mavis Ramelle Burris on September 21, 1940. She preceded him in death on September 29, 2005.
Dick was a kind and gentle man. He was always very appreciative of any kindness anyone did for him. He loved traveling to the Charleston area with his daughter and her husband. He loved collecting antiques, old cars and going to the CARE Café.
Mr. Mills worked as an auto body repair man, owning Mills Body Shop. During WWII, he and his wife lived in Wilmington for seven years while he worked in the shipyard.
He is survived by one child, his daughter, Linda Mills Sample and her husband Mark.
