Harvey Carpenter, a U.S. Army veteran, had many careers

Wednesday, August 28, 2013 — Harvey Gene “Papa C” Carpenter, 80, of Mooresville, passed away on Monday, August 26, 2013, at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital.

He was born on October 6, 1932, in Oakboro, N.C., to the late Thomas Benton and Regina Little Carpenter.

Mr. Carpenter served in the U.S. Army and graduated from N.C. State University in 1954. He was employed with Young Manufacturing Company in Norwood. He received his Master’s Degree in Business at UNC-Chapel Hill. He was employed with Douglas Aircraft in Charlotte, Courts & Company in Charlotte, Reynolds & Company in Charlotte, Johnson Lane, Space & Smith Company in Charlotte, Capital Investments in Raleigh and also served as former pastor at Pleasant Hill Primitive Baptist Church in Statesville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Sidney G. Carpenter; sister, Dr. Loraine Carpenter; and three infant siblings.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Julia Ann Poplin Carpenter; son, Dr. Jimmy S. Carpenter and wife Janie; daughter-in-law, Mary Tee Carpenter; brothers, T. Earl Carpenter and wife Lina, Jerry B. Carpenter and wife Juanita; and grandchildren, Erin Sanders and husband Rob, Christopher Carpenter, Julia Carpenter, Kyle Carpenter, Timothy Carpenter, Keri Carpenter and Kristen Carpenter.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 29 at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Boyd Lambert and Rev. David Huggins officiating. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. at Pine Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Jay Belk officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pine Grove United Methodist Church Building Fund, 28774 NC 24/27, Albemarle, NC 28001 or the charity of donor’s choice.
