James Springer, 85, of Albemarle, an avid hunter, fisherman, passed away Nov. 19, 2013


Thursday, November 21, 2013 — James Horace Springer, age 85, of Albemarle, died at 6:50 p.m. Tuesday, November 19, 2013, at  his home.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, November 22, 2013, at First Baptist Church in Albemarle. Rev. Roger Thomas will officiate and burial will be in Stony Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at First Baptist Church in Albemarle on Friday, November 22, 2013, from 10-11 a.m. prior to the hour of the service.

Born March 11, 1928, in Stanly County, N.C., he was the son of the late Henry Silas Springer and Emma Burgess Springer.

He was a retired manager of Piedmont Cleaners of Albemarle. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Albemarle where he was a Deacon, Past President of Saints Sunday School Class, Teenage Boys Training Union Leader and a Veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Mr. Springer was married to Geraldine Brown Springer of the home for 63 years.

Other survivors include two sons, James Dean Springer of Albemarle and Gary Wayne Springer of Greer, S.C.; one brother, Henry M. Springer of Albemarle; one sister, Ottie Jane Haynie of Union City, Ga.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
