Cecil Manning

Monday, April 29, 2013 — Mr. Cecil R. Manning, 76, of China Grove, passed away on Monday, April 22, 2013, after several weeks of declining health at CMC-Northeast in Concord, N.C.  

He was born in Akron, Ohio on August 21, 1936, and moved to Franklin, Pa. as a young boy where he graduated from Rocky Grove High School.  

He then proudly served in the U.S. Army Reserve as a  drill sergeant, while concurrently maintaining employment at the Joy Manufact-uring Company, until 1977, when he reached retirement from both.  

After his service in the military, he moved to Madera, Calif., where he was employed at Heublin Winery until reaching retirement again.  

Upon retiring in Calif-ornia, he moved to China Grove, N.C. and lived there until his death.  

During his spare time he enjoyed membership to multiple groups including Moose, Eagles and Elks clubs. He also proudly served as Constable for Venago County, Pa. and was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Albemarle, N.C.

Cecil is survived by his wife, Ozell Manning; six children and their families; Coral R. Ditty of Brookville, Pa., Lucinda B. Smith of Luthersville, Ga., Cecil R. Manning II of China Grove, N.C., Christina J. Wilson of Fresno, Calif., Christopher J. Manning of South Korea and Wendy J. Sloss of Franklin, Pa.; stepson, Victor Dale Roberson and wife Diane of Albemarle; stepdaughter, Colette Den-ise Benson and husband Donovan of Midland; 15 grandchildren, stepchildren and stepgrandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and multiple nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was at Immanuel Baptist Church in Albemarle, N.C. on Saturday, April 27, 2013, at 11 a.m. There was time to fellowship with the family at 10:30 a.m. before the services.

Linn Honeycutt Funeral Home in China Grove is serving the family.
