Joe Copley, 72, of Waverly, Tenn., enjoyed hiking, snow skiing, water skiing, fishing, passed away Nov. 11, 2013


Thursday, November 14, 2013 — Joe Albert Copley, 72, of Waverly, Tenn., passed away on November 11, 2013, peacefully in his sleep.

Joe was born in Albemarle, N.C on June 25, 1941. He graduated from Albemarle High School and was an alumni of Wingate University. He also was a graduate of the Radio and Television Broadcasting School of Atlanta. He worked in radio from the time he was in high school and went on to become owner of WVRY and WPHC in the middle Tennessee area, which he continued to do so until retirement.

Joe was a former member of the Tennessee Broadcasters Association, Albemarle High School Alumni, Wingate University Alumni and former Rotary Club member.

Joe was an avid lover of the outdoors. He enjoyed hiking, snow skiing, water skiing, fishing and relaxing with his friends and family.

Joe is survived by his wife, Sharon Copley; daughter, Allison G. Copley; his sister, Barbara Cockman and her husband Gynne of Winston-Salem, N.C.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Max A. Copley and Elizabeth L. Copley.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. on November 16, 2013, at First Lutheran Church of Albemarle.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the ASPCA, American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals or the charity of one’s choice.
