Amelia Thomas Smith, 87, of Locust, passed away Saturday, April 19, 2014, in her home.
Her funeral service will be at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 24, 2014, in the Stanly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Ingle officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakboro Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3-4:30 p.m. at Stanly Funeral Home prior to the service.
Born January 15, 1927, Mrs. Smith was the daughter of the late Lonnie Carlton Thomas and Mamie Love Thomas and was a homemaker and a former employee in the textile industry. She was a member of Providence Church of God.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melton Conner Smith, on December 11, 2010.
She is survived by daughters, Teresa Dufine and husband Mark of Charlotte and Sharon Smith and husband Joel Whitley of Locust; grandchildren, Kristin Herring and Robyn Holmes; and great-grandchildren Josh and Amelia Herring and Libby and Mae Louise Holmes.
The family requests that memorials be made to Providence Church of God, Senior Adult Ministry, 12474 N.C. Highway 24/27, Locust, NC 28097.
