Louise Edwards Cowan, 86, went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 29, 2013.
She was the daughter of the late McKinley Edwards and Annie Angel Edwards of Bryson City.
Mrs. Cowan graduated from Gardner Webb College and Western Carolina Teachers’ College. She enriched the lives of countless students for 35 years as an elementary school teacher and reading coordinator in Webster, Oakboro, and Burlington, N.C.
Mrs. Cowan was a member of the First Baptist Church of Waynesville and previously a member of the First Baptist Church of Burlington.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Herman V. Edwards, and her sister, Helen Witt Cassada.
Mrs. Cowan is survived by her devoted husband of 66 years, Oliven T. Cowan; her sister, Marie Stallcup Alemany; her son, Mack Cowan and wife Betty Sue Cowan; her daughter, Angelique Cowan Kymmell and husband Max Kymmell; five grandchildren, David, Joe and Andrew Cowan and Hannah and Allison Kymmell; and five greatgrandchildren, Elizabeth, Natalie, Jonathan, Liam and Julia Cowan.
The family received friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, N.C.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at Peachtree Memorial Baptist Church, Murphy, N.C., with Dr. Chester Jones officiating.
Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, handled the arrangements.
