Glennie Morton, a Collins & Aikman retiree, dies at 84


Monday, July 15, 2013 — Glennie Morton Morton, 84, of Norwood, passed away Saturday morning, July 13, 2013, at Stanly Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday morning July 15, 2013, at Porter United Methodist Church. Rev. David Hobson and Rev. David McCauley will officiate and interment will follow in Porter Community Cemetery. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday evening, July 14, 2013, at Edwards Funeral Home in Norwood.

Mrs. Morton was born March 15, 1929, in Stanly County to the late Henry A. Morton and Sunnie Jane Floyd Morton.                           

Mrs. Morton was a retiree of Collins & Aikman Corporation and a member of Porter United Methodist Church. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Lee Morton Sr. and 12 brothers and sisters.  

She is survived by her son, Roy Lee “Buddy” Morton Jr. and wife Pam of Norwood; daughters, Valeria Morton and Joan “Hoopie” Clayton and husband Dick, all of Norwood; sister, Lille Morton of Norwood; two grandchildren, Shawn Morton and April Morton and Brandy Lowder and husband Brandon; four  great-grandchildren, Gage and Gunner Morton and Jeslyn and Tinlee Lowder.

The family requests memorials be made to: Hospice of Stanly County, 960 N. First S., Albemarle, NC 28001 and/or Porter United Methodist Church, 16357 Tyson Road, Albemarle, NC 28001.
