Tuesday, January 31, 2012 — William Lewis “Rock” Hudson, age 82, of Albemarle, died at 7:50 p.m. Sunday, January 29, 2012 at Stanly Regional Medical Center, Albemarle.
The family will receive friends at Stanly Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, January 31, 2012. The body will remain at the funeral home until taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the hour of the service.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at Poplin Grove Baptist Church, Albemarle, where he was a member. Rev. Richard Carlisle, Rev. Terry Burris and Rev. Delaine Burris will officiate and burial will be in Poplin Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with full military graveside rites conducted by the Stanly County DAV Ritual Team.
Born November 29, 1929 in Campbell County, Va., he was the son of Carrie Lorene Martin Hudson of Lynchburg, Va. and the late James Smiley Hudson.
He was a retired employee of Stanly County and a retired employee of Fabco Fastners, Stanfield.
He was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving during the Korean Conflict, a member of Monroe Lodge #244 A.F & A.M., Scottish Rite and Oasis Shrine Temple, Charlotte.
Mr. Hudson was married to Ruby Marie Burris Hudson of the home. Other survivors include three sons, Ronald Lee Hudson of Channelview, Texas, David E. Hudson of Charlotte and Donald Lewis “Don” Hudson of Florida; one stepson, Rodney Lowder of Albemarle; two daughters, Judy Carolyn Fant of Houston, Texas and Annita Darlene Helms of Charlotte; one brother, Harold A. Hudson of Lynchburg, Va.; two sisters, Doris L. Eures and Margie H. Maddox, both of Lynchburg, Va.; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
One sister, Hazel H. Williams preceded him in death December 5, 2001.
