Thomasina Benson, 91, of Badin, who enjoyed fishing, cooking, gardening, passed away May 12, 2014

Friday, May 16, 2014 — Thomasina Satterwhite Benson, 91, died Monday, May 12, 2014, at her home in Badin.

Thomasina was born June 12, 1922, in New Berry, South Carolina, to the late Geter and Sally Satterwhite. She is preceded in death by her husband, Major L. Benson; her son, Monte Benson; her daughter, Loretta Simpson; sisters, Flossie Swartz, Melvin Morse and Modestine Hughes; and brothers, Theo, Rufus, Wallace and Geter Satterwhite.

Thomasina retired from Jefferies Manufacture in Albemarle. After retirement, she spent time fishing, gardening and cooking. She was well-known in the community as a mother and grandmother to others.

To hold memories of an Angel that lived, laughed and loved are her sister, Nannie Lou Thomas of Bronx, New York; children, Harold (Jessie), Major (Linda) Geter Benson, Leasina Harrell; 16 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews and close friends.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 19, 2014, at McDonald Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church, 802 Dewey St., Badin. Visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the service at the church.
