Richard Lee Poplin, age 78, of New London, died at 7:20 p.m. Sunday, April 28, 2013, in Carolinas Medical Center-Main, Charlotte, N.C.
His graveside service was at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, 2013, in Stanly Gardens of Memory, Albemarle, with full military graveside rites conducted by the Stanly County DAV Ritual Team. Rev. Joe Smith officiated.
There was no formal visitation.
Born August 16, 1934, in Stanly County, he was the son of the late John Frank Poplin and Virgie Harris Poplin.
He was a textile employee. He was of the Baptist Faith and a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Poplin was married to Opal Graham Poplin of the home.
Other survivors include two daughters, Kimberly Ann Thompson and husband Jimmy of Albemarle and Gwyndolyn Leigh Pickler and husband Lee of Stanfield; two sisters, Bessie Burris and Frances Hathcock, both of Albemarle; three grandchildren, Rodney Thompson, Neal Pickler and Sean Pickler; and two great-grandchildren, Mason James Pickler and Reese Catherine Pickler.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Stanly County, 960 N. First St., Albemarle, NC 28001.
