Paul Merritt Sr., 88, of Charlotte, a WWII U.S. Navy Veteran, died Dec. 9, 2013

Thursday, December 12, 2013 — Paul Jessie Merritt Sr., 88, of Charlotte, N.C., passed away peacefully on Monday December 9, 2013, at the Huntersville Oaks.  

Mr. Merritt was born June 11, 1925, in Alma, Ga., to the late Jessie and Esther Talbert Merritt.

He served his country proudly for four years in the U.S. Navy during WWII and the Korean Conflict.

After working for 20 years with the WA Buening Engravers, Paul opened Merritt Graphics Co. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Men, Long Creek Masonic Lodge and the Lions Club.

Along with his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his brother, Billy Merritt and sister, Evelyn Hinson.

Paul leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Margaret Lenora Puckett Merritt; son, Paul Jesse Merritt Jr. and his wife Phyllis of Davidson, N.C.; brothers, Manuel F. Merritt of Charlotte, N.C., and Jim Merritt and his wife Norrie of Cincinnati, Ohio; sister, Myrleen Page of Albemarle, N.C.; grandchildren, Paul Jesse Merritt III and Cassie Rae Merritt, both of Davidson, N.C.; and sister-in-law, Peggy Puckett Marshall and her husband, Jack.

The family will receive guests on Friday, December 13, 2013, beginning at 1 p.m. in the Family Life Center of Trinity United Methodist Church. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. in the church with Rev. Wade Ogle officiating.
