Alfred Gibson loved to hunt and fish

Friday, September 27, 2013 — William Alfred Gibson, 77, of Norwood, died Tuesday afternoon, September 24, 2013, at Carolina Specialty Hospital in Charlotte.

Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Friday, September 27, 2013, at Norwood Church of God, Norwood. Rev. Keith Allen and Rev. Mark Little will officiate and burial will follow in Norview Gardens, Norwood. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, September 26, 2013, at Edwards Funeral Home of Norwood.

Mr. Gibson was born April 17, 1936, in Anson County. He was a son of the late Thomas Calvin and Bertha Mae Hough Gibson. He was a retiree of Stanly Fixtures and attended Norwood Church of God.

Alfred was an avid coon hunter and fisherman.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Libby Poplin Gibson, of the home; three daughters, Marie Thompson and husband Tony of Albemarle, Melissa Colson and Melody Thompson, both of Norwood; one brother, Vernon Gibson of Norwood; one sister, Ruth Allen of Norwood; five grandchildren, Eric Varner and wife Lauren, Grace Luther, Troy Luther and wife Tanya, Ashley Bowers and husband B.J. and Alicia West; nine great-grandchildren, Cory, Dillon, Ella, Mia, Mallory, Teagan, Ben, Jace and Chloe.

He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Hughie Luther; two grandsons, Garry and Larry Varner; a great-grandson, Colby Efird; two brothers, Russ and Ray Gibson; and three sisters, Fronie Lee, Sarah Grissom and Peggy Little.

When not at the funeral home the family will meet at the home of Melissa Colson, 611 Heights Ave., Norwood, NC 28128.
