Hazel Dennis was retired from the textile industry


Monday, April 14, 2014 — Hazel Virginia Garrison Dennis, 83, of Troy, passed away late Wednesday evening, April 9, 2014, at University of North Carolina Hospital in Chapel Hill.

Her funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday, April 14, 2014, at First Wesleyan Church in Troy. The Rev. Brian Wardlaw will officiate and burial will be in Fairview Memorial Park in Albemarle.

Hazel was born April 15, 1930 in Stanly County to the late Henry Garrison and Essie Talbert Garrison Bowers.

A retired textile worker and a member of First Wesleyan Church in Troy, she was preceded in death by her husband John “Reece” Dennis, who passed away in 2010, and brother Clyde Malon Bowers.

She is survived by her sons Ricky McElwaney of Summerfield, Fla., Larry Dennis and his wife, Jean, of Summerfield, Fla., and Gary Dennis and wife, Wendy, of Troy; her daughters, Ryan and Rusty Dennis, both of Troy; her sister, Pallie Taylor of Albemarle; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The family received friends 3-5 p.m. Sunday, April 13, 2014 at Stanly Funeral Home, Inc. and will receive from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Monday, April 14, 2014 at First Wesleyan Church in Troy.

Stanly Funeral Home of Albemarle is serving the family.
