Butch Burleson, 67, of Albemarle, a U.S. Army Veteran, who loved to sing, build furniture, died March 4, 2014


Thursday, March 6, 2014 — Lester Lee “Butch” Burleson, 67, of Albemarle, passed away early Tuesday morning, March 4, 2014, at his home.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, March 7, 2014, at Poplins Grove Baptist Church in Albemarle. The Rev. Richard Carlisle and the Rev. Don Crusenberry will officiate and burial will be in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Oakboro. Full military graveside rites will be conducted by the Stanly County DAV Ritual Team.

Born November 2, 1946, in Stanly County, he was the son of the late Cecil Burleson and Dixie Holcomb Burleson Thorpe.

He was educated at both South Stanly High School and Stanly Community College and was owner and operator of Lester Burleson “The Tile Man” as well as a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was a member of Poplin’s Grove Baptist Church and loved to both sing and build furniture.

He is survived by his wife, Meneika Jerrell Cooke Burleson, of the home; sons, Jeff Burleson of Thomasville and Erik Burleson of Fayetteville; daughter, Nikki Long of Kannapolis; stepdaughter, Tammy Whitley of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; brothers, Cecil Burleson Jr. of Albemarle and Ronnie Burleson of Badin; sister, Joann Burleson of Albemarle; and grandchildren, Tanner, Tucker and Brianna Burleson.

The family received friends at Stanly Funeral Home, Inc. on Thursday Evening from 6-8 p.m.
