Lonnie Dennis

Thursday, August 22, 2013 — On Monday, August 19, 2013, Lonnie Lane Dennis, husband, father, son and brother, passed away suddenly at the age of 67.

Lonnie will be remembered by his wife of 45 years, Sara; his daughter, Jessica, as well as his grandchildren, Joseph and Justin.

He was preceded in death by his son, Patrick.

Lonnie has an extended family with many loving cousins, nephews, nieces and close friends, including his sisters, Betty Rose Hester and Lottie Morris.

A native of Stanly County, N.C., Lonnie was born in 1945. Lonnie joined the U.S. Navy after graduation from high school where he served with distinction for 23 years attaining the rank of Master Chief.

Upon retirement from the Navy, he and Sara lived in New Freedom, Pa. while working as a defense contractor. Eventually they moved to Albemarle, N.C. where he worked for the City of Albemarle Water Department before retiring permanently. Currently, Lonnie and Sara live in Chesapeake, Va. and have a mountain home in Rosman, N.C.

Lonnie had many interests including reading, fishing and travel. He was a man of many talents – with woodworking, electrical and general building skills. Lonnie built several of the homes he and his family have inhabited including the Rosman mountain home. His generous spirit and willingness to use his skills to help others with be fondly remembered by all.

A Celebration of Life will be from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2013, at The Rosebriar Restaurant, Albemarle, N.C.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Autism Society of Tidewater, which Lonnie supported in honor of his grandson, Joseph.
