Melvin Gerald Poplin

Monday, December 24, 2012 — Melvin Gerald Poplin, 77 of 6851 Princeton Kenly Road, Princeton, died Friday, December 21, 2012 at Always Compassionate Family Care in Fremont.

He was born June 4, 1935 to Lois Poplin and the late Offie Alexander Poplin.  

The funeral was on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at 6 p.m. at Casey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Michael Coppock and the Rev. Alan Strickland officiating. The burial will be on Sunday, December 23, 2012 at 1 p.m. at Stanly Gardens of Memory in Albemarle, with the Rev. Nathan Fox officiating.

Mr. Poplin graduated from Liberty High School, and Guilford College. He received his masters from Appalachian State University.  Mr. Poplin had 31 years as an educator and coach as well as an assistant principal. He worked in several counties including Craven, Stanly, Warren, Anson, Iredell and Johnston counties.

Mr. Poplin is survived by his wife, Daphne Capel Poplin; a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon Poplin Rumble and Gavin of Lexington; a son and daughter-in-law, Eddie Poplin and Rhonda of Princeton; and sisters and brother-in-law, Marlene Poplin Smith and Darrell of Norwood, and Susie Poplin Lisk of Norwood. He has four grandchildren, Andrea Rumble, Blake Rumble, Trent Poplin, Garrett Poplin and many nieces and nephews.

Although, flowers are welcome the family suggest contributions be made to Community Hospice.
