Tuesday, November 19, 2013 — Monroe Wilson Poplin, 75, of Gold Hill, passed away on November 16, 2013, at the Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House in Salisbury.
Mr. Poplin was born in Stanly County on September 15, 1938, son of the late Woodrow Wilson Poplin and Mildred Boles Poplin.
Mr. Poplin was a 1956 graduate of Norwood High School and was a Service Tech for Pitney Bowes for 38 years.
Mr. Poplin was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy where he served as a Medic. He was a member of Grace Bible Church and Rockwell AMVETS Post 845, where he was a Past Commander. He loved antique cars.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Matthew Speight, brother, Phillip Poplin and sister, Kay Poplin Lowder.
Mr. Poplin is survived by his wife, Jean Speight Poplin; son, Mark Poplin and wife Kelly of Norwood; daughters, Cheryl Speight Hurst of Rockwell and Scottie Speight Davis and husband Ronnie of Salisbury. He is also survived by grandchildren, Graham and Greyson Davis, Chad Poplin and Branson Hurst; and great-granddaughter, Halina Poplin.
The family will receive friends at Powles Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 20, 2013, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and on Thursday, November 21, 2013, from 11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m.
The funeral service will follow at 12:45 p.m. Thursday, November 21, 2013, at Powles Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by Rev. Mike Shoaf, pastor of Nazareth Community Church.
Burial will follow at 2 p.m. on Thursday, November 21, 2013, at the U.S. National Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Rowan County Veterans Honor Guard and the N.C. National Guard.
