The problems with Kathleen’s Kitchen are from taxes owed from previous years when I was not handling the business end of this business. I am taking care of my taxes. The taxes owed were from when my husband was alive and he was handling the business. I was unaware of the back taxes until recently.

I do not think that it is right to humiliate and shame me in the newspaper to the people of Stanly County. I have had hard times since the passing of my husband in February and I have been working hard and diligently to get things straightened out. It does seem, however, that some people would rather bad mouth me and see me fail than have compassion for a widow trying to work hard to keep her employees employed and serve the citizens of Stanly County with good meals in a nice, clean and safe environment.

You’ve heard the old adage, “the harder I try the further behind I get,” to no fault of my own. Well, I am living proof of that statement being true. My husband always said that he’d leave me in fine shape, but as many of you that have businesses together, you are not always aware of what the other person is, or is not, doing. You assume things are sailing along smoothly.

I am not putting shame on my husband’s name, but do feel a retraction to my name should be made. I believe that I should have been contacted for a statement prior to the issuance of this article by The Stanly News and Press.

I do appreciate the patronage of Stanly County’s citizens to Kathleen’s Kitchen and their lovingly kind words during these past six months.
