Tragic week for county’s residents

It has been a tragic week for the citizens of Stanly County as high speed and a curvy road took the lives of four teenagers and one of the county’s most respected, Dr. John Murray, was taken from us on Wednesday.
Death always has its sting, regardless of the circumstances; but when young people and outstanding humanitarians are lost, the grieving process touches us all with greater poignancy.
For the four teenagers, life was just in the starting blocks while with Dr. Murray, his years of service to others and his example of living life to the fullest was a beacon that drew us all to him.
He led from among us with a quiet, confident demeanor that showed his great love for his fellow man and in so doing, made this place we call home a better place for us all.
To the families involved, we extend our heartfelt condolences ... we too feel your pain.
