“Operation I-85 South” results in multiple arrests and seizures

Monday, June 10, 2013 — CHARLOTTE  – Probation/parole officers from the Department of Public Safety, along with local and federal law enforcement officers, arrested 33 individuals this past week and seized drugs and guns from offenders on probation and parole during “Operation I-85 South,” a warrantless search operation in Mecklenburg, Rowan, Cabarrus and Gaston counties.  The operation began Monday, June 3 and ended Friday, June 7.

 

            Assisted by several local and federal law enforcement agencies, probation officers executed warrantless searches at residences of 116 offenders on probation, parole or post-release supervision.  Many offenders on probation or parole are subject to warrantless searches as a condition of their supervision.

 

            “Operations like this make it clear to probationers and parolees that conditions of supervision will be strictly enforced, and illegal activity will not be tolerated,” said Public Safety Secretary Kieran Shanahan. 

“We are grateful to all of our local and federal law enforcement partners for their assistance in this operation.”

 

            Agencies participating in “Operation I-85 South” included the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, Concord Police Department, Salisbury Police Department, Kannapolis Police Department, Gastonia Police Department, Gaston County Sheriff’s Department, Rowan County Sheriff’s Department, Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Department, U.S. Marshals Violent Offender Task Force, FBI Safe Streets Task Force, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Gang Unit and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.

 

            Seizures during the operation include various amounts of marijuana, cocaine and heroin and five handguns.

Gaston County

Mark Price, 45, charged with possession of heroin

Ortavious Lynch, 23, charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia

Javaraious Burris. 25, charged with possession of cocaine and marijuana

Nikki Perez, 30, simple possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia

 

Mecklenburg County

Marquis Jones, 24, charged with felony possession of marijuana, possession with intent to sell/deliver marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia

Antonio Hollman, charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, possession with intenst ti sell/deliver cocaine

Antonio Covington, 18, charged with probation violation

Jamal Robinson, 25, charged with probation violation

Carlton Ardrey,  26,  charged with breaking and entering a motor vehicle, felony larceny, probation violation, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting a public officer

Dominique Mickerson, 20, charged with breaking and entering motor vehicles (18 counts), felony conspiracy, larceny of a firearm, misdemeanor larceny (4 counts), possession of a stolen firearm(2 counts), possession of a firearm by a felon (2 counts)

Jonathan Cortez, 20, charged with probation violation, felony carrying a concealed gun, possession of drug paraphernalia, maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances, possession with intent to sell/deliver marijuana

Xavier Hoover, 23, charged with conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, robbery with a dangerous weapon, 2nd degree kidnapping

·         Darius McClure, 27, charged with elony possession of marijuana (218 grams), possession with intent to sell marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, violation of post-release supervision  

·         Craigory Vareen, 23, charged with possession of cocaine, maintain dwelling for purpose of sell/deliver drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia

·         Keiwonus Robinson, 25,  charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana

·         Desmond Shansideen, charged with possession of drug paraphernalia

·         Desmond Flake, 28,  charged with probation violation

·         Jason Furr, 40,  charged with possession of marijuana

 

Rowan County

·         Kenneth Dwight Carpenter, 29, charged with possession of firearm by felon, possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver schedule I , possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver schedule II (two counts)

·         Quincy Lamonte Love, 21, charged with probation violation

·         Lonnie Ray Carpenter Jr., 25, charged with misdemeanor possession of schedule VI
