Public invited to comment on how federal energy assistance dollars will be spent

Saturday, May 4, 2013 — Raleigh, N.C.--The public is invited to comment on how federal funds in the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Block Grant will be spent in state fiscal year 2013-2014.



The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) provides heating and cooling assistance, weatherization and crisis assistance. States are given broad latitude under block grant funding to design and operate their own programs, under certain restrictions. Last year 230,735 North Carolina households were assisted using funds from this grant. This year's block grant amount is estimated to be $114 million.

 

Anyone interested may review the LIHEAP Block Grant during the week of May 6- May 10, 2013, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the following locations:



Any of the 100 county departments of social services,

The N.C. Department of Health and Human Services Division of Social Services, 820 S. Boylan Ave., Hargrove Building 1st Floor Conference Room, Dix Campus, Raleigh, NC

The public hearing will be held on Friday, May 10, from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Hargrove Building 1st Floor Conference Room, 820 S. Boylan Ave., Raleigh, NC.
