Wingate, N.C. – Wingate University presents NPR humorist and bestselling author David Sedaris on Thursday, Oct. 24 at 7:30 p.m. in Austin Auditorium. This will be his only North Carolina performance on his 2013 fall tour. The performance will include adult language and content.
With wit and social critiques, Sedaris has become one of America’s preeminent humor writers. He slices through cultural euphemisms and political correctness as a master of satire and one of the most observant writers addressing the human condition today.
David Sedaris’s original radio pieces can be heard on This American Life, distributed by National Public Radio. He has been nominated for three Grammy Awards for Best Spoken Word and Best Comedy Album. “David Sedaris: Live for Your Listening Pleasure” is his latest audio live recording of new stories.
He wrote Barrel Fever and Holidays on Ice, as well as personal essay collections including, Naked, Me Talk Pretty One Day and Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim. His most recent book, Let’s Explore Diabetes with Owls, debuted in the number one spot on The New York Times bestseller list in April. Sedaris is the author of The Times bestselling collection of fables entitled Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk: A Modest Bestiary. Sedaris’s essays appear regularly in The New Yorker and have twice been included in “The Best American Essays.” Seven million copies of his books are in print and have been translated into 25 languages.
He and his sister, Amy Sedaris, have collaborated under the name “The Talent Family” and have written several plays, produced at La Mama, Lincoln Center and The Drama Department in New York City. One play, One Woman Shoe, received an Obie Award, an Off-Broadway Theatre Award.
