Wingate University professor wins national award

Monday, May 20, 2013 —             Wingate, N.C. – Wingate University Assistant Professor of Religion, Heather McDivitt, has been selected as an Outstanding Advising Award Winner in the Faculty Academic Advising category from the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA). The award is presented to individuals who have demonstrated qualities associated with outstanding academic advising of students.  She will be honored and presented with the award in Salt Lake City, UT during the NACADA Annual Conference this fall.

            McDivitt has been teaching in the religion department at Wingate University since 2006. Before coming to Wingate, she earned a degree in Elementary Education from Grove City College in Grove City, Pa., a Master in Education at State University of New York at Buffalo, a Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary and a PhD in Systematic Theology from University of Edinburgh in Scotland.  She was ordained in April 2013.

She counts being involved in the lives of college students as an honor. "College is such a neat part of the journey," she said. "I want to help college students have a successful transition personally, socially, physically, emotionally and spiritually."
