Yoga for a face lift

Wednesday, December 5, 2012 — Regular yoga asana practice will keep you feeling and looking more youthful by bringing fresh blood to the head and face by taking your head below your waist.  But there are also exercises you can do with your face to firm up your forehead, eyes, mouth, chin, cheeks and neck. The muscles of our face are no different from our bodies.  If we do not exercise them, they become weak and lose tone. Face yoga is a holistic way to smooth wrinkles, reshape and redefine your face.  It is a lot cheaper and more natural looking than Botox, so it cannot hurt to give it a try.

Begin with a few poses with your head below your waist like Downward Facing Dog and Standing Forward Fold. Shoulder Stand and Plow are also great poses for your face, as well as your memory and mood, but these should only be practiced when you are very warm.  You can sit in a chair and hang upside down to get the blood flowing to the face. Be sure to stretch your neck and shoulders to help relax the muscles of the face.

One of the most basic things you can do to help reduce wrinkles is to relax your face completely, as often as you can. Try to create an expression of total peace and ease. Close your eyes and think of something pleasant to help you smooth out any lines or crinkles in the face while you calmly breathe.

Here are some other things you can do to create that natural facelift: To help smooth our marionette lines, fill your cheeks up with air and hold your breath while you swish the air from one cheek to the other. To keep your lips full, press your peace fingers gently against your lips as you pucker and press your lips into your fingers. To help reduce a double chin you can tilt your head back, place the tip of your tongue on the roof of your mouth and swallow with a small space between your lips. To help tone the muscles around the eyes, keep your head very still as you move your eyes from right to center, then left to center.

Repeat each exercise a few times each and always remember to breathe slowly and evenly in and out through your nose. A few other things to remember for a youthful glow are drinking lots of water, getting plenty of sleep and eating a balanced, moderate and healthy diet. When we feel healthy, we feel beautiful at any age.
