Wednesday, November 7, 2012 — Easy recipes for the holidays with the slow cooker.

Turkey Breast

1 large boneless turkey breast

1/4 cup apple cider, or juice

1 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon pepper

Put turkey breast in slow cooker. Drizzle apple cider over turkey. Sprinkle on both sides with salt and pepper.

Cover. Cook on high 3-4 hours.

Remove turkey breast. Let stand for 15 minutes before slicing.

Yield: 6 to 8 servings.

Slow Cooker Dressing

14-15 cups bread crumbs

1-1/2 cups chopped celery

1-1/2 cups chopped onions

1-1/2 teaspoons sage

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon pepper

1-1/2 cups or more chicken broth (enough to moisten the bread)

1/4-1 cup melted butter or margarine (enough to flavor the bread)

Combine all ingredients but butter. Mix well. Toss with butter.

Spoon into slow cooker. Cook on low 4-5 hours.

Yield: Makes 10-12 servings.

Raisin Nut-Stuffed Apples

6 baking apples, cored

2 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted

1/4 cup packed brown sugar

3/4 cup raisins

3 tablespoons chopped walnuts

1/2 cup water

Peel a strip around apple about one-third of the way below the stem end to prevent splitting.

Mix together butter and brown sugar. Stir in raisins and walnuts. Stuff into apple cavities.

Place apples in slow cooker. Add water.

Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours.

Yield: Makes 6 servings.
