American Legion Auxiliary unit 76 visits with veterans

Staff and wire reports

Friday, November 11, 2011 — The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 76 had the privilege of visiting with the men and women who have served our country at various capacities in the armed services and now reside at the assisted living facilities in Stanly County.

They were able to deliver baseball caps embroidered with the branch of service they served in, American flags, and other basic necessity items. Spending time with our veterans was a blessing. Each one had a special story to tell or a smile to share.

It was a real joy to visit and listen to them all. This wonderful event took a few days, due to the number of veterans and the desire to share a piece of their time and honor their service without rushing through the visit.

A special thank you to each facility, Bethany Woods, Forrest Oakes, Lutheran Home, Spring Arbor, Stanly Manor, The Taylor House, and Woodhaven Court, and their personnel for making the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 76 feel welcomed and for their efforts to stand and applaud along with the residents as the veterans received their gifts.
