CONCORD, NC – Rep. Larry Kissell (NC-08) spent Veterans Day honoring Veterans from throughout the region.  After a service at the Hefner VA hospital in Salisbury, he attended an observance in Concord at the Boys and Girls Club with the Disabled American Veterans and American Legion, that featured Robert G. Aldous as the guest speaker. Aldous is a veteran of World War II and Korea that flew a total of 74 missions in two wars.

"Our nation owes such a debt to our Veterans and I hope that we can all do more to honor them, not just today, but all year round for what they and their families have sacrificed for our freedom," said Kissell. "Each and every day I'm reminded of the tremendous contributions of veterans in keeping our country free.  Whether it is those of my father's generation who fought and won WWII or the young people keeping us safe in this time of terrorist threats across the world, one thing remains the same among those who have served and continue to serve in America's armed forces and that is a commitment to do whatever it takes to protect our homeland and keep our democracy alive and well."

Kissell is a member of the House Armed Services Committee.  He has sponsored and co-sponsored numerous bills in support of veterans including the Veterans’ Compensation Cost-of-Living Adjustment Act, the Assuring Quality Care for Veterans Act, the Disabled Veterans' Surviving Spouses Home Loans Act and the Veterans’ Small Business Assistance and Servicemembers Protection Act.
