Chamber CEO receives first veterans advocate award

Friday, February 9, 2012 — Tom Ramseur, Stanly County Chamber of Commerce CEO and president, is the first recipient of the North Carolina Career Center 1 Annual Veterans Advocate Award.

Ramseur was unaware that he was a nominee and stunned when he was called to the podium to receive the recognition for his support of those who are and have served in the military.

The presentation was made by Gerry Pion, NC-AMVETS Career Center 1 Deputy Commander, at the chamber’s annual meeting on Jan. 30.

Pion said “that Mr. Ramseur was the selection committee’s unanimous choice, and he couldn’t think of a more deserving person for the honor.”

North Carolina’s first AMVETS Career Center was dedicated on Dec. 7, on the 70th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor.

It is on the main campus of Pfeiffer University in Misenheimer. The center is a non-profit veteran’s organization that provides free career and job assistance to active duty, guard, reserves and veterans.

The center is in Jane Freeman Hall and is open 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The center’s e-mail address is and phone number is (704) 463-3026.
