AMVETS assemble at Charlotte Motor Speedway for Vietnam veterans salute

Thursday, April 26, 2012 — Representatives from AMVETS Rockwell Post 845, Albemarle Post 910, and the Pfeiffer University North Carolina AMVETS Career Center paid tribute to the parade of patriots that passed their display with handshakes and tokens of appreciation. An estimated 300 veterans took advantage of the AMVETS free annual membership program.

Nancy Shiverdecker, AMVETS Department of North Carolina Public Relations Officer, commented, “It was indeed our honor to join the North Carolina USO, North Carolina Association of Broadcasters, and Charlotte Motor Speedway in this well-deserved tribute to our Vietnam Veterans. I’m particularly proud of our volunteers who remained at their post throughout the day without a break.”

It’s estimated that between 50,000 to 60,000 veterans attended the event to honor those that served during the Vietnam Conflict.

Emotions ran deep as these Vietnam veterans and others finally received their homecoming honors.

“More than 216,000 North Carolina residents served in Vietnam, with 1,600 making the ultimate sacrifice.”

This is why the North Carolina USO took such a strong, passionate stand in initating this long overdue celebration.
