During the North Carolina Department Convention of the American Legion Auxiliary, which was in Raleigh June 22-23, Auxiliary Unit 520 won several state awards.
For community service efforts the Auxiliary placed third in the state as having one of the best community service programs for North Carolina.
Secondly, the Auxiliary received the Aspiring Unit Award for 2012 for its programs and dedication to military troops and programs in National Security.
Lastly, Junior Group received the David Belton Trophy for having the most organized group of junior’s within the state.
One of its members, Jewell Faggart, received a state award for having the “Most Creative Americanism Program.”
This was a total of four State Awards that American Legion Auxiliary Unit 520 received.
In addition, the Auxiliary received certificates of outstanding achievement in leadership workshops, public relations, veteran’s affairs, and contributions to the state president’s prayer book.
American Legion Auxiliary meets the first Thursday of every month at 7 p.m. at VFW Post 2908 on Anderson Road, Albemarle.
