145th AW Conducts ‘Salute’ Event to Recognize Airmen

Tuesday, October 11, 2011 — CHARLOTTE, N.C.  – The 145th Airlift Wing held its second Hometown Heroes Salute ceremony October 1 at the North Carolina Air National Guard Base, here.

In August 2008, General Craig R. McKinley, Chief, National Guard Bureau, sanctioned the Air National Guard Hometown Heroes Salute recognition program to celebrate and honor the significant contribution of Airmen, their families and communities along with special supporters of the U S Air Force and the Air National Guard.

The Airmen being recognized have deployed for at least one tour of more than 30 consecutive days in support of contingency operations such as Operations Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom, Noble Eagle and other operations around the globe since January 1, 2009.

The 145 AW has seen near constant deployments since September 11, 2001.
