In two Yadkin Valley Conference matchups this week, the Gray Stone women’s soccer team won easily over South Stanly, then produced a dramatic last-second win over South Davidson.

The Knights scored seven times in the first half en route to the team’s seventh win of the season, keeping Gray Stone undefeated in YVC play.
Christina Gentile scored two gaols and added an assist while Anna-Grace Sumner had a goal and two assists for Gray Stone. Sydney Webster, Kynsay Hunt, Taylor Query, Ella Hedenskog, Katie Leckonby and Alayna Richardson all scored goals in the win.
Leading 2-0, Gray Stone scored three goals over a five-minute span midway through the first half, building a five-goal advantage in the 24th minute.
The Knights led 6-0 at halftime and scored three times in the first 16 minutes of the second half. Richardson’s goal with 23:52 left on the clock enforced the nine-goal rule, ending the match.

The last time the Knights and Wildcats played soccer this season, 100 minutes of regulation and overtime soccer did not produce a goal, with Gray Stone winning in the shootout 3-0.
On Wednesday at home, 79 minutes and 58 seconds of soccer did not produce a goal until literally the final second before the match would have gone to overtime.
Gray Stone scored with one second left on the clock to improve to 8-2-2 overall and 7-0-0 in the YVC with a 1-0 win, dropping South Davidson to 6-3-1 and 6-2 in conference play.
Anna-Grace Summer sent a ball into the penalty area where Shayla Whitley headed the ball into the back of the net for the only goal of the game.
Katie Leckonby posted the shutout victory in goal for the Knights.
Gray Stone continues conference play this week with road games Thursday at West Montgomery and at North Rowan Friday.
