West Lincoln got a grand slam homer in the bottom of the fourth inning to key a comeback, then scored the winning run in the sixth inning in their 6-5 win over North Stanly.
With the win, West Lincoln advances to the third round of the 2A State Playoffs while North Stanly says farewell to a group of seven seniors
The Comets took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but West Lincoln cut the lead in half with a run in the bottom of the first.
North Stanly added single runs in the second and third innings to take a 4-1 lead, then came the grand slam by West Lincoln to take the lead at 5-4 after four innings.
The Comets tied the game with a run in the sixth, but West Lincoln answered with a run in the bottom of the sixth to take the 6-5 win and advance to the third round of the 2A State Playoffs.
Shepherd went 5 2/3 innings and took the loss. The junior left-hander struck out 12. Ethan Austin relieved in the sixth and recorded the last out.
The Comet offense was led by its seniors in their last game for North Stanly.
Center fielder Ben Parah had two hits, including a home run, while first baseman Jack Kelly also had two hits. Shortstop Justin Culp, third baseman Ryan Burris and second baseman Jacob Beck had a hit apiece.
