Whitley pitches South past East Wilkes, 1-0

The South Stanly Lady Bulls are the last team standing in Stanly County after pulling out a 1-0 win over East Wilkes on Tuesday at home.
The win advances the Lady Bulls to the second round of the 1A State Playoffs on Friday night with West Wilkes coming to town.
In Tuesday’s win, freshman Nikki Whitley was dominant once again, pitching a two-hit shutout while striking out 14 and issuing just one walk.
South Stanly banged out eight hits, led by two hits each by Sara Kimrey and Whitney Parker.
The Lady Bulls scored in the bottom of the third when Kodi Smith doubled and scored when Sara Kimrey singled into the hole to deep shortstop and the East Wilkes shortstop threw the ball away at first base.
