Alex Robichaud threw a six-inning complete game as Albemarle defeated West Wilkes on the road, 11-0, to advance to the third round of the 1A State Playoffs.
“That was a big win for us,” said Bulldog Coach Jamie Kimrey. “They’d eliminated us the last two years.”
The Bulldogs will now host Bishop McGuinness on Friday night at 7.
Robichaud held West Wilkes to just three hits and one walk while striking out nine and the Bulldog bats scored early and often.
Freshman third baseman Corey Dick continued his torrid long-ball hitting, blasting a two-run homer in the top of the first inning. Dick was 3-3 on the night and also had a run-scoring single in a seven-run second inning by the Bulldogs.
Second baseman Shane McConlogue had a key 3-run double in the seven-run second and John McClure had a RBI single. Gabe Dunlap was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to get another run home.
