The Colts headed into their opening RRC game on Friday night without starting center Charlie Eudy, who was on his official visit to Gardner-Webb, where he will play football next season.

The Colts rallied from an early deficit but the host Rebels responded with a strong fourth quarter leading West to a 16-point road loss.

Taylan Rowe led West (4-10, 0-1 RRC) with 16 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field, including 3-of-7 from beyond the three-point arc.

Baron Whitley added 13 point for the Colts, hitting 5-of-9 overall and 3-of-6 from long distance.

As a team, West Stanly was 17-of-50 overall (34 percent) and 6-of-20 on three-point shots.

Trailing by 11 in the second quarter, West held Parkwood (7-7, 1-0) scoreless over the first six minutes of the second period, eventually taking a two-point lead in the third quarter.

Parkwood eventually pushed the lead in the final period out to 10 points then hit free throws down the stretch for the win.

“I was proud of how we competed tonight. We just have to learn how to close out games,” West head coach John Thompson said.
